  3. Use your personal vehicle or church van to transport participants to and from weekly meetings
  4. Take part in the training class or refer those who might be interested

Weekly Meetings

Weekly meetings are at the core of NETWorX.  They include shared meals, time for relationship-building and mutual accountability, goal setting, and celebration.  The training class covers topics such as self-awareness, holistic poverty, resources, the role of trauma, and community change.  At the end of the class, graduates are matched in groups to support and encourage one another to continue the journey of moving towards well-being together. Because transformation takes time, participants are asked to dedicate at least 12 months to training and relationship building.

Donations

You can donate to NetworX for Hope Randolph and your contribution will be used to support our mission.

NETWORX ALLY ROLE

The NETworX Ally has the three primary objectives:

  • Make an intentional friendship with a family or individual in financial poverty and join them in their quest to have enough relationships, resources, and reason in their lives
  • Increase own awareness of holistic poverty, stereotypes, class rules, biases and be willing to face these

The NETworX Ally Commitment:

  • We ask that you make a long-term commitment to be a NETworX Ally for at least 12 months
  • Attend NETworX training alongside Champions focused on the holistic definition of poverty, creating SMART goals, building relationships across dividing lines, and after you are matched:
    • 4-10 hours per month of time spent with NETworX and Champion of Change
    • One monthly meeting with the NETworX scheduled at a mutually convenient time
    • One Weekly Community Meeting – could be Whole Community or another meeting that works best with your schedule
    • Phone, email text support to Champion of Change and other Allies as needed throughout the month

Support the NETworX Ally Receives:

  • Orientation to NETworX and Training
  • Ally Support Sessions
  • Collaboration with others in your NETworX – you are not alone
  • NETworX staff available to answer questions, provide mentoring, and assist conflict resolution

How Can a NETworX Ally Be Sensitive of Differences Across Class Line:

  • If possible, come to NETworX  meetings in casual clothes
  • Find ways to introduce yourself that emphasizes who you are, not what you do
  • Don’t expect Champions of Change to approach the Weekly Meetings the way that you do in the business world
  • Read Bridges Out of Poverty
  • Look for low-cost or no cost options for outings with your NETworX
  • When you have strong feelings about the Champion of Change family, be willing to look at your own feelings or rules may be activated and talk to someone about it – another Ally, the Champion of Change or the NETworX staff

CHAMPION OF CHANGE ROLE

The Champion has the three primary objectives:

  • Create life changes that lead to long term self sufficiency
  • Develop unique gifts and leadership skills to help lead the NETworX, contribute to the NETworX initiative, and give back to the community
  • Use personal experiences to back or support changes in the larger community that keep poverty in place

The Champion Commitment:

  • Complete Champion Training curriculum focused on the holistic definition of poverty, creating SMART goals, building relationships across dividing lines
  • Commit to be part of the NETworX initiative for at least 12 months
  • Attend Weekly Community meetings with other NETworX Champions and Allies at least 2-3 times per month
  • Identify ways to contribute to the NETworX initiative in reciprocity for the support received
  • Meet monthly with your NETworX, which consists of 2-3 Allies
  • Set and make progress on goals you identify with the support of your NETworX Community and Allies

Support the Champion Receives:

  • Champion training
  • 2-3 caring Allies to join in the journey to success
  • Weekly community meetings in which meals and child care are provided
  • Staff available to answer questions, provide mentoring, and assist with any problems that may arise

Be Sensitive of Differences Across Class Lines

  • Remember that Allies may not have any experience with poverty and may make mistakes
  • Remember that you may not have any experience with Allies and may make mistakes
  • Remember that the Allies in the NETworX are friends, not social workers.  Don’t expect them to “fix” the situation
  • When there are strong feelings about the NETworX initiative or Allies, be willing to look at how personal fears or rules may be activated and talk to someone about it.
